The Bateman Arms is situated in Shobdon village (pop.800) which is 5 miles from the Welsh border in an area commonly known as the "Marches" and named after the private armies that once roamed these badlands looking for a skirmish. Thankfully things are a lot more peaceful and welcoming these days with North Herefordshire offering outdoor enthusiasts the chance to stroll along scenic footpaths, while others relax in our laid back rurality. The rooms are in the old stables adjacent to the Inn and are all ensuite. We are dog friendly with owners able to enjoy a meal with their "pooch" in the lower bar.
In keeping with our rural heritage, Head Chef Reece insists on sourcing locally produced ingredients for his homemade dishes and in so doing he presents a wide ranging menu of traditional fayre that offers great taste and good value for guests. We think our reviews speak for themselves. "Made in Shobdon, Not Iceland!"
We have six ensuite rooms in the renovated Stable block adjacent to the main building. With many walking and cycling groups visiting this area our multi occupancy rooms are ideal, offering space, comfortable beds and lots of hot water. Car parking and WiFi are both free and the room price includes a hearty breakfast served 7-30am - 9am weekday 8am -9-15am weekends.
